wedding stories

My approach to wedding photography is simple - I tell the story of what happens to be one of the most important days of your life. I capture the moments you didn't get to see: your parent's tear-filled eyes; the look on your partner's face when you come into view; the jokes, laughter, and silly moments that always happen when friends and family gather for a day.

Frequent Questions
I capture those moments you know you'll never forget: walking down that aisle; reading those vows you so carefully wrote; that kiss that seals the deal; that first stroll across the dance floor; and that moment you cut the cake and promptly stuffed a handful of it in your partner's face.
I also capture the finer details that helped make your day speak to you: the mason jar candles; the decorations that your best friends spent hours crafting; the rings and shoes and handkerchiefs and veil you specifically chose for your day.

My photos and videos do more than capture your moments; they make memories, carefully crafting the story of your day. Please scroll down for client testimonials, as well as all the information you'll need on pricing and booking Kelly Baker Photography for your special day.

Frequent Questions

  • I've never booked a photographer before...
Not to worry! It can feel like a daunting task for sure, but really, the key is finding someone who: (a) you like as a person (enough to spend a few hours or even an entire day with!) and, (b) has high-quality work in a style that you like. That's it. Photographers are people are a passion for capturing moments. The key is finding someone (hopefully me!) whose vision and style matches yours.
  • You're based in Fredericton, but I live in...
No problem! I love me a good adventure. For a small mileage fee, I will travel anywhere in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI. Got a destination idea a bit further away? Now I'm really excited - let's talk.
  • How can we book? Do you require a deposit?
You can book by either emailing me - kellybakerphoto@gmail.com - or by filling out the contact form located here. For weddings, I require a 20% minimum deposit to hold the date, and the remaining 80% during the week of the wedding. For family, couple, and other smaller sessions, a 20% deposit will hold the date, and the remainder can be paid the day of the shoot. Cash and email money transfer are both accepted.
  • What does "editing" or "post-processing" mean?
Think of it like this: the photo I take is like a blank colouring book. It's the bones of the photograph. It's where the initial magic lies. But "editing" or "post-processing" is where I do some digital magic to make those photographs POP. I tweak colour, contrast, and tone. I create black and whites. I craft your style. For more complicated and creative photographs I may do stitching or compositing. For every hour I shoot, I spend on average about 3 hours on the computer making your photos just right.
  • Oh, is it the same as "retouching"?
Not exactly. I do minimal "retouching," which means really really really fine tuning. For me, part of crafting your story means creating photographs that look like you! So, I'll remove a noticeable zit, or quickly zap a fly-away hair. But major retouching such as tattoo removal, heavy skin softening, etc. is done at additional request and hourly cost. You're fab just the way you are!
  • How far in advance should I book?
I have no minimal timeframe for booking. If I'm available, I'll do it. Of course, during peak wedding season, you'll want to book well in advance. But I've scheduled shoots both a year and a week in advance.
  • What's the next step after we've booked?
You breathe a sigh of relief, we all scream "YAY!" and then I'll email you a link to a client questionnaire and contract for you to fill out at your leisure. Once those are returned we will book a sit-down consultation to talk specifics.
  • What will it be like to have a photographer at my wedding?
In many ways, I hope that afterward you say, "I barely even noticed you!" But I also hope you say, "and when I did notice you, we had FUN." I am both a fly on the wall and a member of your wedding party in a way. So I will make helpful suggestions to help us get the best photos possible, but without being pushy or bossy in any way. I am also there to straighten ties, help you not trip over that dress, and ensure we follow the schedule of the day.
  • What are my responsibilities before/during/after the shoot? What are yours?
You are responsible for:
~ getting all relevant schedules/timelines to me in advance
~ having anyone needed for group photos informed and rounded up
~ sending me a list or discussing verbally with me any specific photos you want taken and any ideas you have
I am responsible for:
~ ensuring all of your wishes and ideas have been recorded and discussed
~ arriving early and prepared
~ helping you choose a good location for photos
~ having a solid plan of the various shots and photo sessions throughout the day
~ directing people in the photographs in terms of posing, etc.
~ having your photos completed and given to you within 3 weeks of your wedding day
  • Will you take candid photos at our wedding?
Absolutely! They're honestly some of my favourites. You will get to witness moments that happened amongst your friends and family that you were completely unaware of.
  • But will we get posed, traditional portraits too?
Certainly! Every wedding package includes a session where the couple gets to pose with various groupings of their immediate and extended family. You should leave a minimum of 30 to 45 minutes for this, depending on the size of your family.
  • How about the photos of just us?
Oh yes, this can happen multiple times throughout the day/night. Light changes dramatically during the latter part of the day, so I'm all about sneaking you out for some after-ceremony couple shots, but also some sunset and even nighttime shots too! These sessions need not be longer than 15 or 20 minutes but will give you some time to just breathe and be together in between the busy parts of your day.
  • How many images will we receive? And how? When?
With the full-day Fully-Loaded package, you can expect to receive between 500 and 700 high-quality digital JPEG images. I show you some sneak peeks in an online gallery and the final photos are given to you on a USB drive within a maximum of 3 weeks. With the half-day Key Moments package, you can expect to receive 300-500 images in the same way.
  • We want something different than the traditional wedding/engagement photo. We saw this cool thing on Pinterest...
Look no further! I'm here to craft your story. Let's get creative and let's do this.
